DR 2025 Day 4

A Day of Service, Connection, and Learning – Day 4

Day four of our mission trip has been another incredible day filled with joy, service, and discovery.

This morning, we had the privilege of learning more about the amazing work of Mission Emanuel. To our surprise, they have an on-site school with over 320 students! We began the day by meeting the principal and a few administrators who shared the school’s deep and rich history. Afterward, we divided into groups to tour the school and visit several classrooms. The students were thrilled to see us, and we had a wonderful time asking them questions, answering theirs, and singing songs together in English. The joy and connection in those moments were truly palpable.

After the tours, we hosted VBS for 122 enthusiastic first- through third-graders. The energy in the gym was contagious! Together, we sang songs, read scripture, worked on a memory verse, and shared a Bible message that communicated the gospel. The kids greeted us with countless hugs, and shoulder rides quickly became a popular request. We also did a craft project, which the children loved, and wrapped up with games that had everyone laughing and enjoying themselves.

In the afternoon, we split into two groups:

  • The boys went to a worksite to spread rock for what will become a parking lot across the street from another school in town. Later, we discovered we had been working alongside Javier, an inspiring man who started that very school over 30 years ago in the upstairs of his home with his wife. His story was nothing short of remarkable!
  • The ladies joined a women’s co-op that delivers meals to those in need within the community. In smaller teams, they visited homes to provide food, pray with families, share the gospel, and give Bibles. These moments of unexpected visits were deeply moving for everyone involved.

We are continually amazed by the extraordinary ways Mission Emanuel has transformed the community of Cielo over the past 30 years. Beyond the school, they’ve established a water treatment plant, a medical clinic, dental services, and numerous other resources that have profoundly blessed and uplifted the community. Witnessing their unwavering dedication and love is both humbling and inspiring.

Tomorrow, we look forward to another workday and more meal deliveries. In the afternoon, Alexi has arranged a basketball game with some local players. During halftime, several of our students will share their testimonies, ensuring that everything we do points others to Christ and His gospel.
