DR 2025 Day 1

Safely Arrived – Day 1

We arrived safely in the Dominican Republic, marking the start of our mission with smooth travels and high spirits. Out of a group of 28, only one bag was missing, a small challenge that served as a reminder of how blessed they were.

Our drive from the airport to the hotel was a defining moment, reminding us that we were no longer in the U.S. Our driver demonstrated incredible skill, maneuvering the bus effortlessly through traffic that seemed to follow no discernible laws yet somehow had its own flow. Hundreds of moto-taxis bobbed and weaved through the streets, adding to the organized chaos.

Once we arrived at the hotel, Nicole, our group leader from Mission Emanuel, greeted us warmly and helped everyone get settled into their rooms. Spirits are high, and the team is eager for the days ahead.

We gathered for a group meeting to spend time in prayer and prepare our hearts for the week. Nicole provided an overview of what to expect, giving us insights into Mission Emanuel’s work and the home we will help build. She also shared the story of the family we’ll be serving. After the meeting, we had some time to acclimate to Santo Domingo. The boys immediately jumped into friendly scrimmages with the locals, playing both soccer and basketball on the hotel grounds. It was incredible to see them connecting with others through the universal language of sports. The girls enthusiastically cheered them on and are already gearing up for the meaningful work ahead.

The energy and teamwork among the group are inspiring, and it’s clear that God is already moving in powerful ways.
