Chapel News

This week in Secondary Chapel, Mr. Hodges continues our sermon series on The Armor of God by talking about the Belt of Truth. The Belt of Truth is an interesting piece in the Armor of God. It’s not armor itself, but it is foundational for the rest of the armor. Without “putting it on” first, the other pieces can’t be accessed. A soldier, before being fit for action, needs to gather all the flowing parts of his garment and tuck them into his belt. Similarly, to put on the Belt of Truth, we must take every part of our life and align it with the truth of God’s word.

Often, we do the opposite—we pick and choose the parts of Scripture we like and set aside what confuses or challenges us. Instead, as Christians, we need to let God’s word examine us, revealing the areas of our life that aren’t fully surrendered to Him. With the Holy Spirit’s guidance, we can offer all of ourselves to God.

Next Thursday (9/26), continuing our focus on the truth and dependability of God’s word, we will welcome Pastor Johnny Benz to Secondary Chapel. He will be teaching and preaching on the Reliability of the Word of God.

This school year, we are introducing an exciting opportunity for our secondary students to participate in student-led groups, which we are calling Clubs! Here’s how it works: every Thursday before Chapel, students will meet with a teacher “sponsor” to explore an area of interest together.

Some of the Clubs our students have suggested include History Club, Spanish Club, Photography Club, Strategic Games Club, Book Club, Art Club, Fitness Club, and Handcrafting Club. This week, students will choose their Club, and by next Thursday, they will meet for the first time. We can’t wait to see what they create as they explore these semester-long Clubs!

FCS CARES DAY – September 27

We’re so excited that next Friday, September 27th, all our 6th-12th grade students will spend the entire day at Lake Geneva Youth Camp for our Fall FCS Cares Day! Students won’t come to school at FCS that day, but instead they need to be dropped off at 8:30am and picked up at 3:30pm. They should dress for the weather and to work outside helping LGYC with some projects as they transition from Summer to Fall. Our time serving together will be coupled with some time of worship and a brief message from God’s word. LGYC will provide lunch for each of us, students only need to bring $5 to cover the cost of lunch. Please watch the ‘DROP OFF DIRECTIONS’ video link for information on how to drive through their property for drop off and pick up.

On October 1st, 2024, our Sophomore and Junior students will be taking the PSAT/NMSQT standardized test. There are a lot of wonderful benefits to taking this test, including scholarship opportunities, national recognition, and a chance for students to practice standardized testing before they take the ACT in the spring of their Junior year. I know testing can be daunting and sometimes a little scary, but I assure you that we try our best to make this as painless of an event as possible. For our Sophomores, this is a practice test, to learn how they feel in the testing environment and get a chance to see how this test functions. For Juniors, the scores on this test can make them eligible for the National Merit Scholar program, which offers scholarships and recognition. You can also check out the following resources for more information.

VOLUNTEER

Maintenance Wish List

Now that we have a full-time Facilities Director in place, we’re excited to get our maintenance shop fully up and running. To keep our tools organized and ready for use, we’re in need of a functional tool chest. If you have one you’re willing to donate or are looking to part with, we’d be incredibly grateful for your support. Your generosity will help us keep our school in top shape! Please contact the school office if you can help. Thank you!

FACTS APP – WHY GET IT!

Using the FACTS app instead of a web browser on your phone is preferable because it provides a dedicated, streamlined platform to access all school-related information like grades, attendance, tuition payments, and important announcements in one place, offering a more convenient and integrated experience compared to navigating a school website on a mobile browser; essentially, the app is designed specifically for managing your child’s school details efficiently on your phone. If you’re a phone user for $5 a year this could make you rlife much easier.
