Leadership is servanthood and starts internally. A person with the right character and mindset will naturally serve those around them. A servant attitude reflects internal transformation. At Faith Christian School, we provide opportunities throughout the year for students to serve each other, their school, and the greater community, fostering a heart of service in all aspects of life.
Christ Himself gave the directive to serve others as He has served us (John 13:14-15). With the conviction that service is an integral part of the life of any believer, our middle school students are required to complete 10 hours of community service per semester, and high school students are required to complete 15 hours each semester. Through these opportunities, students learn to live out their faith by serving those around them.
One of the greatest ways our school makes an impact on our community is through service, and we call these special days FCS CARES Days.
FCS CARES
FCS Cares is a bi-annual event where our goal is to be an encouragement to our community. From kindergarten through 12th grade, students engage in a variety of tasks such as cleaning, painting, and raking, while others connect relationally—playing games, singing songs, spending time, and praying with those they serve.
This fall, due to leadership camps, only our secondary students were able to participate in FCS Cares Day. On the last Friday in September, they joined their teachers at Lake Geneva Youth Camp to serve the community. As we began planning earlier this summer, we felt that coming together as a school to serve alongside one another in the fall would set the tone for a year of service, making community involvement a natural part of our culture by the time spring rolls around.
When we shared this vision with the staff at Lake Geneva Youth Camp, they understood the challenge of coordinating service projects for 124 students and their chaperones, but they were fully on board. The camp graciously hosted us, and our students, organized into House Groups, took on tasks like clearing brush, splitting and moving firewood, planting trees, laying mulch, and cleaning various areas around the camp.
Working side by side—students, teachers, and chaperones alike—we glorified God by selflessly serving our community. The experience of serving together was a blessing for everyone involved. A special thanks to Lake Geneva Youth Camp for their partnership and for making this day of service possible!
